Expressions We Wear
April 20, 2008 - May 5, 2008Gallery32@Dent Inn is pleased to announce it’s next exhibition, “Masks - Expressions We Wear”, an exhibition by Oh Soo Jin. The exhibition is on view from April 20, 2008 through May 5, 2008. In it's first international artist exhibition, Gallery 32 brings Soo Jin from Republic of Korea. Soo Jin is a fine arts graduate from Kyonggi University and is currently a graduate student of Print in the same institution. She has exhibited her works in various national and international shows. Her works has been recognised several times in Korea. She received a Special Selection in 25th Korean Contemporary Print Making Exhibition in Seoul. She has also won 2006 Figurative Exhibition of Gusangjeun Prize and 2006 Silla Art Competition Special. In regular life we are used to hiding our feelings. We show only what we want to and our faces does not always show what we feel inside. The feelings we show on our faces are known as expressions. However to our artist, Soo Jin they are known as Masks, the expressions we wear. In her works Soo Jin explores the superficial expressions of people in their faces. She finds that the expressions and masks share a common character. Both of them hide what is inside them and portray only what they intend to show. She finds hundreds of expressions to work on, expressions of joy, tears, sadness, sleep, etc. She has worked on her exhibitions on expressions of smile, expressions of war and also on absence of expression. In this series Soo Jin has tried to bring the expressions of individuality in people. Influence of Korean Hahae mask and Korean faces are clearly seen in her works. Her masks can be seen mainly in orange, black, indigo and gold. It's time for you to see her works and explore the masks you are wearing.
