Crown - Covering of a tooth
What is a crown?
Crown is a custom made covering that covers whole surface of a tooth. Crowns
can be fabricated by different materials such as porcelain, metal, porcelain
fused to metal.
How many visits do I need?
To put a crown on your tooth, the treatment may require minimum three visits.
- On the
first visit, we will diagnose and analyze your teeth.
- During
the second visit, tooth is prepared. During preparation we reduce about
2mm of tooth structure. After preparation an impression of the prepared
tooth (measurement of tooth) is taken. The measurement is then sent to the
dental laboratory to fabricate the crown.
- The
ready crown will come in about 3 days from laboratory which is then bonded
to the tooth surface with the special bonding materials in your last
visit.
What is the difference between metal and ceramic fused to
metal crowns?
Both metal and ceramic crowns are equally good and highly
used. However, many people prefer to have ceramic crowns rather than metal as
porcelain crown match the exact tooth color. Ceramic crowns are the only choice
while putting a crown in front teeth.
Do you also provide metal free crowns?
Yes, we also provide metal free crowns.
Will a crown fall off?
Crown may fall off in some rare instances. We may reuse that crown in some
cases. So when you make appointment with us for a problem like this, do not
forget to bring that crown with you.
