How can I whiten my teeth?
You can bleach your teeth to whiten them. But remember, not all the teeth can
be whitened. For example, yellowish hued teeth will probably bleach well,
brownish-colored teeth may bleach less well, and grayish-hued teeth may not
bleach well at all. If you want to bleach your teeth, we first schedule for the
examination. If your teeth can be bleached we then discuss different bleaching
options with you so that we can whiten your teeth.
What are the different bleaching options?
Bleaching may be done completely in the dental clinic (chair side bleaching) or
at your home (take away home bleaching).
Chair side bleaching may require more than one office visit.
Each visit may take from 30 minutes to one hour. During chair side bleaching,
we will apply either a coating of bleaching gel on your tooth surfaces and
leave for few minutes. We may use light to enhance the reaction.
There are many products with the different concentration of
kits are available for take away home bleaching kit. We take an impression from
your upper and lower jaw to make a fitting tray. On your next appointment we
will give you the kit containing bleaching gel and trays that fits your upper
and lower jaw. We also give you the instructions on how to use them.
Will it lasts forever?
Once you bleach your teeth, it remains white for 2-3 years
only. You may need to re bleach them later.
How long it takes to complete the chair side procedure ?
Chair side bleaching may require more than one office visit. Each visit may
take from 30 minutes to one hour.
Does bleaching have any side effects?
In some patients it can cause sensitivity. However the
sensitivity is temporary. The use of desensitizing toothpastes relieves the
sensitivity.
What are the precautions that I should take after I bleach
my teeth?
- You should not smoke, consume highly colored food, hot or
cold foods or beverages for at least 2 days.
